Who are
we?
We
are run and controlled by people with learning difficulties.
We work to improve the lives of all people with
learning difficulties.
We have
learning difficulties.
In the past we used to be called
labels like mentally handicapped, mentally retarded, intellectually handicapped,
or mentally subnormal.
We didn't
like these labels as they kept us down. We choose to use 'learning difficulties'
ourselves. It is a label which doesn't hurt us as much as those above.
Jars should
be labeled not people!
We know what it is like
not to have much power in our lives,
to be treated differently
from other people because we have learning difficulties,
to have other people making
decisions for us.
We are
here to speak up for all people with learning difficulties!
